Exodus is the second book written by God’s great leader Moses. The book’s title means “road out.” Exodus records the departure of God’s people from their slavery in Egypt and the beginning of their journey to the Promised Land. In the third month of that journey, Moses and the people came to Mount Sinai, where God gave them his law.

covenant, a one-sided covenant in which the Lord came all the way to sinful mankind and made no demands, a covenant centered in a great blessing that the Lord himself would bring to Abraham, to his descendants, and to all the people on this earth. The sovereign, infinite God through this agreement actually placed himself under obligation to sinful mankind! There are details about the covenant made on Sinai which we will consider later.
